Final Results for Denton County Jail

I will start with the funniest thing. I actually had a lady in the Denton County jail arrested for allegedly stealing a cow. Yep, that's right, a cow. She said I could share that with you since her story was very mooooving. hehe- sorry. It's true though.

Okay, onto serious matters. There are many stories from this week. I will just share a couple of the ones that touched me the most.

One lady with major learning disabilities passed and the class rejoiced along with her as she tried so hard to reach the goal. You could see the room tense when she tensed, relax when she relaxed, cry when she cried and rejoice when she did it. It was beautiful to see everyone so caught up in wanting her to graduate. Two of the girls were in an area that was so overcrowded, they couldn't get any peace at all. They shared how hard it was to read and memorize with all of that going on. They seperated themselves into corners trying hard to concentrate through the noise. All the ladies in their area had been watching them all week curious about what they were doing. Today, when they came to class, they said the girls were all wishing them luck and waiting to hear if they graduated. I know God will use that to draw people.

One girl graduated for the 3rd time. She is so precious and has been there a long time. She is one of the girls I want so much to have a house for when she comes out. I talked to several who were still here from the last time we were here. They told me of how much their lives have changed since taking the class. Many of them were instrumenta in helping the other girls graduate.

Several broke ties with destructive relationships and we prayed for them as they refused visits and wrote letters of goodbye. One girl had two pods praying for them as she had to turn away her abusive boyfriends visit. She explained the peace she had before she knew how many people had been praying. We knew God honored those prayers.

This morning at the break of dawn I got a call from a girl who was released last night. She was sad she had to leave before she graduated! I just love that!

Okay, I need to quit babbling on but there is one more I just have to share. She was a young lady in my last class. She told us she had never memorized a verse in her life. She explained that she never passes tests and that she literally makes herself sick before a test. She had bought into the lie she was a failure. This week, she memorized 12 for her graduation excersize and graduated with flying colors. She blew me away. I wish you could have seen her face when I told her she graduated. It was priceless. It took her a while to catch her breath. She beemed! The best part is her visit from her mom. She shared with her mom all she was learning and said her mom smiled like she had never seen before. She was so proud of her little girl!!!

It was so beautiful. All of the frustration of the week melted away in these moments and reminded me of why I keep going back. We serve a mighty God!!

Oh Father, thank you for what you did in these girls this week. I know you will finish what you started!!!
